Government of Canada Invests in our Community Services Hub

The Sunshine Coast is getting a new community services hub to fill a critical social infrastructure gap after an investment of more than $3 million from the federal government.

We are thrilled to announce that the Government of Canada has committed over $3 million towards the creation of the Sunshine Coast Community Services Hub (SCCSH), a vitally needed community asset for the Sunshine Coast. This investment was announced by MP Patrick Weiler alongside Catherine Leach, Executive Director of Sunshine Coast Community Services Society (SCCSS), marking a major milestone in our Building Together project.

The SCCSH will provide two floors of no-cost, low-barrier, publicly accessible programs and services designed to support community wellbeing, connectedness, and resilience. Our focus remains on serving under-resourced and higher-need community members, those in crisis, and individuals seeking a place to connect and engage. The Hub will fill a critical social infrastructure gap by offering an accessible, inclusive, and welcoming space for thousands of residents to gather, learn, play, build community, and access essential services—all in one central location.

Catherine Leach, Executive Director of SCCSS, shared:

"This grant ensures that Community Services can deliver the social infrastructure needed for the health and wellbeing of the entire community. The Hub will be a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space, especially for people experiencing crisis or seeking support. What’s more, this building is designed to address the challenges of climate change, creating a future-focused resource for all."

The SCCSH is intentionally designed with a community-centered approach, incorporating environmentally responsible practices that meet or exceed building safety standards. This includes promoting accessibility while highlighting our collective commitment to sustainability and climate change resilience through a Net Zero design.

Patrick Weiler, MP for West Vancouver—Sunshine Coast—Sea to Sky Country, commented:

"The Sunshine Coast Community Services Society has been a pillar of support for the Coast for over 50 years, often serving our most vulnerable community members. We are proud to support the Building Together Project and help establish the Sunshine Coast Community Services Hub, which will meet the growing needs of our community for decades to come."

Of the estimated $34 million needed for the Building Together project, $3 million remains to be secured. Our 50 Women for Sunshine Coast Community Services campaign will help close this funding gap by raising $1.5 million, ensuring we can complete the critically needed Hub and continue providing essential services to the community.
